The Stand of a Feminist

Angela Davis (1944) is a black feminist philosopher and political activist.
Written by: Amonia Rita Stewart

My Stand...
I have come to understand that most people who are against feminism do not understand the ideology behind the word. I have also come to understand that some who claim that they are feminists do not also understand what feminism is all about. Those who are against feminism (the men) are those who see women as slaves who should not have a voice.

They feel intimidated when a woman has a voice and demands for her right, they get insecure when a woman is successful in her chosen path. They support a woman staying in a bad marriage even if it means the woman ends up six feet under and they most often use religious text as reference point, they are quick to blame the woman who is in an abusive marriage, victims of violence or raped as her fault, they discourage their wives to further their education because they feel when she is more qualified than them they automatically become inferior to her, they see any little opinion against their bad behavior as opposing their authority.

They believe a woman should be seen and not heard and she must handover anything she has struggled to earn to them because they have a third leg, to them all feminists are divorcees, they are not only physically abusive to women but also psychologically and emotionally abusive. In fact to them women are a lesser beings and kick against any act that shows a woman supporting a woman and would rather want women to fight against themselves and would be the most irresponsible set of men you can think of who do not take care of their families and most oftentimes confuse equality with authority.

Those against feminism (the women) are most often times those who have low self-esteem, join the bandwagon of men so as to make a man think they are the best and are in need of societal approval, because they cannot achieve (mainly due to fear) what their fellow women have they help bring down any woman who is seen as a success, they wallow in their miserable marriages just to answer Mrs. and also quote religious text to support their abusive marriages and will bash any woman who summons up the courage to leave a bad marriage.

They make excuses for the men and also blame their fellow women who are victims of abuse and rape to be their fault. These also confuse equality with authority. Those who claim they are feminists but really do not understand the concept most often time think feminism is about disrespecting a man because they earn more, they think feminism is about cheating on their husbands and some of them also think feminism has to do with working and look down upon a woman who decides with her husband (who takes care of her well) to be a full time house wife, they think feminism is man hating and yapping about how a man has hurt them, they use their bad experiences with men to discourage others, they think feminism has to do with shirking their marital responsibilities.

Feminism has nothing to do with authority!! Let me clarify what Feminism is to these two sets of people...Feminism is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women that are equal to those of men. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment.

Feminist movements have campaigned and continue to campaign for women's rights, including the right to vote, to hold public office, to work, to earn fair wages or equal pay, to own property, to receive education, to enter contracts, to have equal rights within marriage, and to have maternity leave. Feminists have also worked to promote bodily autonomy and integrity, and to protect women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic violence.

Feminist campaigns are generally considered to be one of the main forces behind major historical societal changes for women's rights, credited with having achieved women's suffrage, gender neutrality reproductive rights for women (including access to contraceptives and abortion), and the right to enter into contracts and own property.
Feminism, a social theory or political movement which argues that legal and social restrictions on women must be removed in order to bring about equality of both sexes in all aspects of public and private life.
Women through history (and into the future) climb a metaphorical staircase into the clouds.
Although feminist advocacy is, and has been, mainly focused on women's rights, some feminists, argue for the inclusion of men's liberation within its aims because men are also harmed by traditional gender roles. If after the above you still do not understand the ideology behind feminism… Sorry!! Even your ancestors cannot help you and you are just another ignorant ranter making noise!! And may I add that most of these ranters against feminism are inexperienced boys who from all indications are less than 35 and have never really experienced life, while the women are desperados with low self-esteem, who think a woman's life has to be validated by men before she exists.

As for those who rant and claim feminism making and turning it to what it's not, are those a man has hurt in one form or the other making them man haters... Those who truly understands what feminism is have mutual love and respect for the opposite sex and help each along the path of life to be the best they can be. And would always speak out against any form of violence or injustice whether on a man or woman!!Have you heard about egalitarianism? That is what I believe in... An egalitarian is someone who believes that all humans should have equal rights and opportunities, regardless of race, sex, sexuality or class background. Another word for it is Humanist!! Yep that is what I am...
